The ARISE project participated in the Akrotiri Spring Festival, a celebration dedicated to the natural and cultural treasures of the Akrotiri Peninsula. Alongside 15 children, we talked about the important plants of the area and created seed balls, strengthening their own active contribution to the protection of nature.
The event took place on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at the Akrotiri Environmental Education Center, in the context of the Environment Month of the Municipality of Kourion.
The festival was organized by the Municipality of Kourion and the Kourion 2030 Organization, and was implemented with the support of BirdLife Cyprus, Terra Cypria – Cyprus Environmental Protection Foundation, the Department of Environment of the British Bases, the Akrotiri Environmental Education Center – Education Unit for the Environment and Sustainable Development, the Joint Services Health Unit, as well as with the contribution of the Enalias Physis Environmental Research Center and the Nicosia Municipal Arts Center.

As part of the DPLUS204 project “Enhancing Resilience of the Akrotiri Salt Lake Ecosystem”, a pilot bryophyte application took place at the Lady’s Mile restoration site on February 4th, 2026. This activity is implemented within the project’s Biological Soil Crust restoration actions, supporting soil stabilisation and ecosystem recovery. Bryophytes contribute to reducing erosion, improving water retention, and enhancing habitat resilience to climate change.

Pilot action for the management of Tamarix species in the Akrotiri Marsh area. Young trees were carefully removed and replanted at designated managed access sites for landscaping purposes and to reduce visual pollution.
